Well if so, I have a deal for you. Hi. I’m Bruce Neighbors and will be the Vice Commodore in 2012. My primary responsibility in this position is to promote, perpetuate, and proliferate RBYC racing and on-the-water activities for the enjoyment of our members and others in the boating community.

Having been the Social Committee Chairman for the last four years I have learned that 90% of the Club’s activities are accomplished through a Team effort. To this end, and along with John Ellinwood (Race Chairman and our Principal Race Officer), and Patrick Shuss (2012 Commodore), I am looking to build a team of people who share our love of the water here in sunny So Cal by supporting the 2012 Racing Program.

John and Patrick have worked with ASMBYC to develop the 2012 racing schedule. John has done another excellent job of getting all the Race Management activities set and ready to go. We have three winter race days scheduled for Saturday, Jan 14, Feb 4, and Feb 25.

Here is the deal. It is essential that a committee boat be available to host and transport the Race Committee to and from the race course to conduct the Saturday races. The committee boat needs to accommodate at least four people and race gear.

I am asking those skippers who are interested in getting more water time, who would like to spend several hours watching racing from the best seat in the house and trade sea experiences with others to contact me as soon as possible at 310 832 4540 to volunteer their time and powerboat for Race Committee duty for the winter race(s). Snacks and refreshments are provided.

This is just the beginning a very active race program.

Regards

Bruce VC-RBYC

As I look upon the year that has passed, I am struck by how far the club has come. I have to congratulate Commodore Craig Miller. He said that his emphasis this year was going to be on increasing membership and he has succeeded magnificently! We have more members than I can ever remember and more are joining each month. The membership is more enthusiastic and more involved than I’ve seen in a long time. The clubhouse is also looking better. We can thank Commodore Craig for the installation of the new equipment and thanks to all of you for making RBYC a better club.

Let’s see – regrets this year… It has to be the fall-off in racing participation. John Ellinwood, the committee boat providers, and I have worked very hard to make the races happen. We haven’t always gotten the weather or number of racers that we wanted, but the races were all run. We did not have a single race that was not run (though one was rescheduled). One of my goals next year will be to increase the number of racers. It may be that I’ll get a small boat and race on Tuesdays-I hope so!

I am anticipating next year (2012) and have some plans I’d like to implement. I hope that you’ll support me and be generous with your time and energy. Together, we’ll have another

great year.

Until 2012 (after the Change-of-Watch dinner, that is),

V/C Patrick Shuss

Greetings from the Helm

Happy New Year to all. It’s hard to realize that our 50th year anniversary has passed. It truly was a wild ride full of memorable times and challenges.

We started the year reviewing the history of the club and found we’d lost some of the things that had made our club great. So we set some goals and achieved some of them. One of the best was reinstating Officer of the Day. Having the club open with an O.D has increased interest and membership along with providing a reliably open club for food and games. The Junior Sailing Fleet program, even though not complete, has a new dingy/sabot dock and four sabots providing a firm foundation for the future program.

We also had some great social events. Tom Bowling gave his support to our social programs by hosting some outstanding events; the Cuban Pig Roast was enjoyed by nearly 100 people and the Crawfish Boil was not only a first for us, it was incredibly good! Bruce and Susan hosted the Mystery Cruise, which was a favorite once again. Jerry Edwards hosted a Fishing Fleet event and we all had dinner from its fresh catch.

Toni Denton and Patty Cotta hosted a fine Mexican Fiesta Night. In addition Caribbean Night, our annual Octoberfest, St. Paddy’s Dinner, Halloween Sock Hop, Christmas and New Year’s parties were also great successes. And of course our Ravioli Cooking Class was well attended. All in all, we sure ate well this year.

Our sailing program was once again terrific with great participation by all throughout the year. We are on a roll. Let’s keep it going in 2012 so we can assure our club will endure another 50 years.

Thank you all. Our future looks secure.
